2021-2022 FSL Recruitment & Intake Update

The following email was sent to all of Fraternity and Sorority Life on Wed, Sept 22, 2021, at 4:00 PM.
Dear VCU fraternity and sorority life community,
On August 2, 2021, VCU announced a pause for all fraternity and sorority new member activities, including recruitment and intake. We now write to update you that, given the progress made related to personnel, policies, and procedures, new member activities will resume in the spring semester with a projected start date in February 2022.
The new Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life joins VCU on October 11, 2021, and will help guide and structure spring recruitment. Additionally, we are working on improved processes to investigate and adjudicate alleged violations of chapter misconduct. We expect to start the FSL new member recruitment process with a robust infrastructure to support community members and chapters.
Resuming new member activities has been complicated by numerous reports since the start of the semester alleging conduct violations by student organizations, which must be fully investigated and adjudicated. The university will continue to review all reports of unauthorized activity; findings that a chapter is responsible for unauthorized activity may result in disciplinary action against the chapter, up to and including permanent loss of recognition.
As previously announced, VCU will continue to prohibit alcohol at all activities, events, or gatherings of recognized student organizations with an undergraduate student membership, regardless of how the event is funded for the 2021-2022 school year. This rule does not apply to the lawful use of alcohol by individual members of a student organization if not part of the organization’s event or activity.
We will also schedule meetings with the leadership of each council over the next few days to answer questions and share the developing plans. For questions or concerns, please contact Fraternity and Sorority Life at (804) 828-4685, during current office hours from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. or by email at vcugreeks@vcu.edu.
Sincerely,
LaDarius Thompson, Ed.D.
Associate Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life
