The Student Government Association (SGA) in partnership with VCU Division of Student Affairs sponsors the initiative. The program's purpose is to increase appreciation, awareness, and collaboration between VCU's Richmond and VCU Arts Qatar campuses. The Exchange provides a once in a lifetime opportunity for sixteen student leaders to travel to the VCU Arts Qatar campus in Doha for one week over the fall Reading Days. In addition, students will host the Qatar delegation in Richmond for one week in late October/early November, including planning for the campus' annual VCU Arts Qatar Day celebration. The program is open to all students on both the Monroe Park and MCV campuses, including graduate and professional students. The program provides full funding for the students who are selected.

Goals

  • Increase appreciation, awareness, and collaboration between VCU's Richmond and Qatar campuses
  • Promote communication, partnership, and leadership development between the Student Government Associations on both campuses
  • Increase students' understanding of Qatari and United States culture and customs
  • Provide a high-impact, study abroad experience that is open to all VCU students regardless of their ability to afford it financially
  • Enhance students' leadership development in order to support VCU's Quest For Distinction and the Qatar 2030 National Vision goals and strategies
