Supporting VCU’s culture of inclusion

Last updatedOctober 26, 2018 by Division of Student Affairs in General Updates

The Division of Student Affairs supports VCU’s culture of inclusion for people of all backgrounds and identities.  We believe in the fundamental goodness of each of our university community members and the rights of each human being.

Recently there have been reports about the potential rollback of gender identity protections at the federal level.  We know that this new creates anxiety and fear for members of our university community and greater Richmond community.  We want to be clear about our support and appreciation for transgender, gender non-conforming and gender non-binary members of our community.  We stand with the statement published by NASPA, the National Association of Student Personnel  Administrators, our professional organization.

As stated in their message, student affairs professionals often are at the forefront of providing students with resources during difficult times. Below is a list of our resources for students to utilize.

  • The Dean of Students office is available to advocate for and assist students dealing with life situations that are impacting their academic and personal success at VCU.
  • The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs assists traditionally underserved and/or underrepresented student populations (i.e. race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender expression/identity) through advising, support, program development, retention and mentoring.
  • University Counseling Services creates an environment that fosters student growth, development and psychological well-being.
  • The Wellness Resource Center creates a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for students, staff and faculty to explore their own identities.

Please know that we are here to support the success, health and well-being of each member of our student body.
